Meet Kev the Community Emergency Volunteer

Just had a brainwave this morning about creating a character to sell the concept of community based emergency planning across the country. Meet Kev, the Community Emergency Volunteer. Apologies for the poor artistic scribble (Not my greatest strength) but it could be an excellent way of introducing safety messages into schools and then via pester power to adults! Comments would be welcome!

Our First Training Night

Thank you to all who attended our first training night on H&S Systems and Coms. Don't worry if you didn't make it as the training notes are now up on the blog so please review at your leisure. If you have any queries please do let me know either by email or at the next training session.

A big thank you to PCSO James Turner of the British Transport Police for making time to come and speak to us. Much Appreciated and very informative.

Thank you also to Barney Weston for presenting the H&S section of the talk (Saving my voice) and Emma Sylvester for talking on the various aspects of DBS checks and what we need to provide.

I look forward to seeing you at our next training session on March 25th which tackles Flooding.

HELLO WORLD!

Its great to see people from other countries checking out this blog as well as from the UK. I hope you are finding it interesting! A big warm Wiltshire welcome to all our viewers from other countries!



So far we've been viewed in the USA, Germany, France, Poland, Australia, Bulgaria, and Malaysia.

So far we have nearly 20 volunteers to start the training sessions next week but we are always on the look out for more. 25 - 30 volunteers is our goal so if you live in or around Bradford on Avon and want to help your community at times of crisis please do come along to our training night next Wed 25th Feb at Bradford on Avon Fire Station. We have been contacted by Melksham Town Council to help them compile their flood plan. This is great news. I look forward to co-operating with other Parish and Town Councils to ensure all the communities in Wiltshire are more resilient to the effects of severe weather and other civil emergencies.

Induction Evening

What a great evening last night. It really is heartening to have so many people willing to step up to the plate and want to help (I think I counted 14 with a good cross section of the community - Some from as far as Chippenham!). A Big thank you to all those who attended on such a cold and wintery evening and don't worry if you didn't make it - We're always open to new recruits. Just download the forms and either drop them off at the council offices or bring them along to the next training night. The notes from yesterday are now in our training notes section along with the training schedule for this year (Get the dates in your diary!)

Look forward to seeing you all on the 25th Feb. The British Transport Police have already said they are happy attend
